Jacques and Esther Reutlinger were prominent philanthropists in the Bay Area who started the Reutlinger Foundation. Jacques was originally from Belgium. Esther was born Esther Lurie in Russia but spent most of her youth in New York. They met in Palestine in 1933 and married the following year. They later moved to Berkeley and became successful in real estate. They helped fund the Reutlinger Gallery at the Magnes Museum in Berkeley, the Reutlinger Center for Berkeley Hillel and Lehrhaus Judaica, and The Reutlinger Community, a senior facility in Danville.
